Tracking another day of heat and humidity for many alongside the arrival of gradual relief

TODAY: Tuesday is starting muggy and warm across the region, with shower and thunderstorm chances through about 7-9 a.m. This activity is from a cold front that lags to the north still, but will pass throughout the day. This will keep heat in the forecast, but also some relief. When the two pass the torch in any particular location remains uncertain due to the speed of the front. Still, generally speaking, we should all start warm and muggy, with the day becoming progressively less humid for all. This will happen a bit more quickly in the north, with relief by late morning, and a bit more slowly in the south. Heat indexes are expected to still reach 100+ degrees south of Highway 50, but areas along and north of I-70 may get spared. This will result in a wide range of temperatures and heat indexes from north to south, and is the main source of uncertainty in the temperature forecast.

TONIGHT: Cooler and dry conditions continue overnight, with temperatures falling into the 60s under clear skies amid light north winds.

EXTENDED: Sunny and mild conditions return on Wednesday, with low humidity. Highs may only reach the low 80s. Mostly dry conditions and a high in the 70s-80s are expected Thursday, ahead of better rain chances on Friday. Scattered showers and storms arrive on Friday, though timing is uncertain. Early forecasts show rain may arrive by early morning or early afternoon. Either way, there is hope for dry time Friday evening. High temperatures are likely in the 70s on Friday. Some lingering rain may impact Saturday morning, but generally the weekend looks dry and warmer. Highs are forecast in the 80s Saturday and 90s Sunday.
