Jefferson City Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 1600 block of Highway 50 around 7:30 Sunday night. The westbound lane of the highway was blocked by the crash.

A car driven by 49-year-old Katrina Paternostro and carrying two girls under the age of 18, was hit by 42-year-old Jason Strope, which led Pasternostro's car to skid off the road. The car then flipped over and eventually came to a stop upside down in a ditch.

Paternostro and the two girls had to be extricated from the car by Jefferson City Fire Department and Cole County EMS. The girls were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to JCPD.

Strope was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

While the crash was being investigated, a second crash occurred at the same scene involving three vehicles.

Traffic was blocked for about an hour.
