Diving group finds truck believed to belong to person reported missing in 2006, police investigating

DUXBURY, Vermont (WNNE) — Vermont State Police are investigating a report of a truck found in the Winooski River that is believed to belong to a man who was reported missing in 2006.
Officials said they were notified of a potential new piece of evidence in the 16-year-old disappearance case of Donald Messier on Wednesday after the group Adventures with Purpose found the truck submerged in the water in Waterbury.
Donald Messier is a 34-year-old Waitsfield man who was reported missing by family members on Oct. 18, 2006, according to Vermont State Police. He was last seen in the early morning hours of Oct. 15, 2006, at a party in Waitsfield.
Donald did not show up to work on that following Monday or make any contact with friends or family since that day in October. Family reported that Donald was depressed and possibly suicidal, according to his file on the Vermont State Police website.
Neither Donald nor his red 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck had been seen since.
State police concluded their search on Wednesday evening and plan to continue working to extract the vehicle from the river on Thursday morning.
