Weather Alert Day: Tracking change from freezing rain to liquid rain tonight
4PM Friday Update:
Road conditions continue to be slushy and slick, especially on local routes into the early evening. Highways and interstates will have slushy and slick spots but are generally wetter. If you do have to travel, ramps and bridges may be slicker due to being elevated, so use caution.
Freezing rain changes over to rain from south to north between 5-8PM. Rain should wash away some of the ice on the roads, but sidewalks and untreated areas may still be somewhat slick.
Rain on the order of 1" to 1.5" continues through the overnight hours and dissipates by Saturday morning as temperatures remain above freezing through early Saturday morning.
An Areal Flood Watch is in effect for much of Mid-Missouri as creeks and streams may feel the impacts from all of this precipitation into the first part of the weekend.
Synopsis:
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9PM for areas south of I-70 in Mid-Missouri, and expires at midnight for areas north.
OUTDATED AS OF 4PM FRIDAY:
Arctic high pressure has pushed cold air into the region, priming us for our next wintry event. The jet stream takes a dive to our west, sending moisture and energy our way from the southwest. With cold air in place, precipitation starts to develop late tonight and move northeast overnight into Friday. We'll likely see all types of precipitation through the duration of the event between Friday morning and early Saturday morning.
Impacts:
Snowfall amounts will range between 1-3 inches north of I-70. As precipitation transitions to a wintry mix, we could see a glaze of ice all the way up to a quarter of an inch. Rain amounts by late Friday night could add up to an inch, which has lead to a Flood Watch being issued.
Overall
Travel could be impacted as early as sunrise on this morning into early afternoon before precipitation changes over to rain by Friday night. Expect slick spots and delays on roads, and potentially lower visibility into the afternoon. Stay with ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather as this event gets closer and we fine tune the forecast.
