WEATHER ALERT DAY: Tracking a few strong to severe storms tonight
Afternoon Update:
Skies have cleared across Mid-Missouri and storms have started to fire up across extreme northwest Missouri and southwest Iowa. There will be two more favorable areas for severe storms tonight; one along and north of Highway 24, and the other south of I-44. The area in between (most of Mid-Missouri) will still have a chance for isolated severe storms, but the coverage is expected to be more limited. All modes of severe weather will be possible through about 10PM.
SYNOPSIS
An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day has been issued for this large storm system that will bring the potential of scattered severe storms to mid-Missouri this afternoon.
While mid-Missouri isn't in the highest risk area, we have plenty of ingredients in place for 1 or 2 storms which could bring severe weather to the viewing area.
TIMINGS
After this morning's round of storms, we have finally cleared out, allowing the atmosphere to destabilize and regain strength to develop more storms this evening. However, the nature of potential storms will be more isolated to scattered rather than widespread like this morning.
Fortunately, the greatest risk for severe storms will likely be along and south of I-44. For most of mid-Missouri this risk is very conditional, which means it has a higher chance of doing not much of anything... but still has a low chance of providing some impactful weather.
IMPACTS
Storms across the northern half of Missouri will have a higher threat of large hail, but across the rest of the region, all modes of severe weather will be possible; including 1" hail, 60-70 mph winds, and an isolated tornado.
