Sturgeon R-V approves 4-day school week
STURGEON, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Sturgeon School Board approved a vote to have a four-day school week for the 2020-2021 school year.
The school district posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday that school leaders made their decision based on a recent district survey. According to the post, 69% of parents, students and staff members approved of the school week switch.
Sturgeon Superintendent Geoff Neill said the school week change will help the school district hire and keep more teachers.
New Bloomfield school leaders also approved a four-day school week recently.
Sturgeon is making the switch after years of operating with four-and-a-half day school week. Next school year the week will run Tuesday through Friday. Neill said 45 minutes would be added to the end of each school day.
Neill said winter and holiday breaks would remain about the same. Students will have three days off for Thanksgiving and about two weeks off for winter break.
Teachers will still meet on most Mondays throughout the school year for workdays. Classes will be held on some Mondays as well.
