MONITEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Health officials in Moniteau County said a resident tested positive for COVID-19.

A news release from the county health department on Saturday said a resident tested positive for the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The release gave few details about the patient, such as their age, sex or when they were tested for the virus. The release said the patient was being isolated in their home.

The department said it was getting a hold of people that may have come into contact with the patient recently. The department said it would "monitor them for fever and respiratory symptoms."

The positive test makes it the first such case of COVID-19 in Moniteau County, the area west of Cole County and southwest of Boone County.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported at least 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Friday night. That count did not include the Moniteau County case.
