COLUMBIA, Mo (KMIZ)

Boone and Cole County road crews are out and working to improve driving conditions as snow continues to fall in Mid-Missouri. Both counties have activated all available crews to work on the roads Friday.

According to Bryan Boyce, Cole County Road Superintendent, crews came in at about 2 a.m. Friday morning to start monitoring road conditions and pretreat the pavement.

Boyce said workers treated roadways with about 100 pounds of salt per mile. He said the snow didn't start falling until about 7 a.m., and as of noon, there was not a lot of snow sticking to the roads because of the temperatures.

"All of our guys are out there monitoring road conditions right now just making sure nothing gets slick. We've got some areas that have more trees along the edges of the road and that block the drifting if we do get extra snow, but as of right now [noon] I'm not seeing a whole lot," Boyce said.

Boyce did have a warning for Cole County residents.

"If you live on a residential street, park in your driveway so we can clear the roads if needed. If (your vehicle is) facing the road always shovel your snow to the right so when the plow comes [they] don't push the snow back into your driveway," Boyce said.

In Boone County, were spreading salt at about 200 pounds per lane mile, the Boone County Road and Bridge Director, Greg Edington, said.

The county called in the night crews and had the main plow crew come in at 6 a.m.
