Winter Weather Special: Utilizing the ABC 17 Stormtracker 360
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team is preparing to provide you with important and timely updates as the impacts of the winter season approach. While some team members will be tracking from the studio, our other Meteorologists will be utilizing the ABC 17 Stormtracker 360. This vehicle will allow the team to provide you with hyper-local information and visuals on impactful winter weather in your area.
This vehicle is a 2024 Ford Bronco, coming equipped with 4-wheel drive. This makes it easier for the team when tracking events where traction may be reduced due to ice or snow. It can also tackle tough terrain whenever necessary. This isn't the only feature that makes tracking winter systems easier and more efficient in the coming season. The main function of the ABC 17 Stormtracker 360 is the 360-degree camera on the top of the car.
This camera is controlled by the passenger inside the car, and the controller has multiple ways to maintain the high quality of the image that is being viewed. The Meteorologist in the passenger seat can control the angle, direction, and zoom of the camera, so the wintry conditions can be observed at all times without interruption. For events that are producing heavier precipitation, the Meteorologist can input a code into the control panel, which turns on the wiper that is built into the lens of the camera. When it comes to overnight events, our Meteorologists can input a different code, which will turn on the LED lights on the top of the camera. The team doesn't need to worry about this camera fogging up, as it also has a de-fogger function built into the internals that can keep a vivid image of the winter weather we are keeping track of.
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team plans to use all of the functions of the ABC 17 Stormtracker 360 to provide crucial information as the winter weather season fully sets in. We will be tracking these impactful winter systems and informing you when it will arrive, what impacts they will have, and how you can stay safe.
