An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect through 3 pm Sunday afternoon due to the potential of severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

Following morning storms that mostly remained subsevere locally, the severe threat shifts east later today as a cold front progresses through the region.

The Storm Prediction Center has southeast MO under a level 3 out of 5 risk for severe storms that could produce high winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes late in the day.

A cold front marches east into the afternoon, cutting off the severe risk behind it. However, severe storms will likely redevelop south and east of I-44 between noon and 3 PM in an unstable environment ahead of the front. Afternoon storms will carry the highest risk of all storm hazards, including a few potential tornadoes.

The cold front presses further east through the afternoon, effectively ending our severe threat before the evening. Behind the front, temperatures drop like a rock, with morning lows in the 30s Monday.

Make sure you have the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather app to get alerts throughout the day on Sunday. It is a great idea to invest in a NOAA weather radio that can wake you up in morning storm situations like this.
