Tracking dangerous heat Friday through Monday
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the upper 60s to around 70.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the lower 90s and a heat index between 100-102.
EXTENDED: It's been a warm day with highs reaching near 90 in some spots so far, but the dangerous heat looks to set in tomorrow with a heat index near 100-102 on Friday. High pressure builds across the Midwest through the weekend, not budging until early next week as it begins to push back to our west. A heat advisory is in effect for areas west of Highway 63 until Monday, where the heat index could exceed 100 each of those days and potentially reach up to 105. That westerly movement of high pressure allows a cold front to drop in from the north on Tuesday, potentially bringing a chance at some evening storms. Severe risks are low with that, but we could see temperatures fall back closer to our seasonal average in the mid-upper 80s.Â
