Tracking scattered showers and storms tonight, warmer and drier Wednesday
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with lows in the mid-60s. Spotty showers and a few storms possible.
TOMORROW: Partly cloudy with an isolated storm near I-44. Highs in the mid-80s.
EXTENDED: Thursday is looking interesting and there is still some uncertainty with how it will play out. A large complex of strong storms is expected to develop to our northwest Wednesday night across Nebraska and dive southeast overnight. By the time storms get to our area they will be losing some strength, but we could still have a few strong wind gusts along with some heavy rain through late morning/early afternoon. This complex is expected to lay down a boundary cutting across Mid-MO that could serve as a trigger for afternoon storms. If the first round lingers longer, that could limit the potential for afternoon redevelopment. If it clears out, we'll see isolated storms develop by mid-late afternoon that could pose a wind, hail, and tornado threat. Storms are expected to congeal into a line along or south of I-70 by evening, and from there the threat would transition to a damaging wind concern with a possible spin-up tornado. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas with high rainfall rates expected. Storms will likely move south of the viewing area after about 10-11 PM, ending the severe weather threat. Rain amounts could end up between 1-2". Showers could linger into early Friday morning, but we'll drop about 10 degrees to the low 70s Friday and Saturday. Humidity eases into the weekend, with sunshine expected Saturday and Sunday. Showers could return by Sunday night into Memorial Day with continued slightly below average highs in the mid-70s.
