Tracking a few more days of intense heat before late weekend storms

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with some patchy fog developing before daybreak. Lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the mid-90s. Heat index in the low 100s.

EXTENDED: Tonight looks warm and muggy again with lows in the lower 70s and highs reaching into the mid-90s again by Friday afternoon. Heat index values look to range between 100-105 with evening temperatures remaining in the mid-upper 80s for high school football games. Saturday will be the last day in the 90s as the heat index stalls at around 100 in the afternoon ahead of a slow moving cold front that could bring overnight storms into Sunday and Monday depending on the speed of the front. We'll notice more clouds in the wake of Sunday morning rain, keeping highs in the upper 80s. A few storms could be strong with winds and small hail as the Storm Prediction Center has the northern half of the area in a level 1/5 risk for severe weather on Saturday night into Sunday. Rain chances hang into Monday if the front remains in the area, and some places may see continued heat if they are on the south side of the boundary. Temperatures will finally cool to near our seasonal average with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s for much of next week.
