Tracking continued extreme heat, increased rain chances starting Thursday

TONIGHT: Muggy conditions continue overnight as temperatures hover around the mid 70s. A pop-up shower or storm is possible in the early morning hours.

TOMORROW: A Weather Alert Day continues to be in effect through Wednesday for extreme heat. Tomorrow's high temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90s, with heat indexes well into the triple digits, potentially nearing the 110 mark. As such, an Extreme Heat Warning is also in effect until 8 pm Wednesday evening. Make sure to stay hydrated, and keep a shaded or air conditioned location nearby if you exhibit any signs of heat exhaustion. A stray pop-up shower cannot be ruled out throughout the day.

EXTENDED: 100+ degree feels like temps continue to plague mid-Missouri into Wednesday, until a cold front finally makes its way into the region Wednesday evening. Until then, avoid extended time outside in the early half of this week. Once the front makes its way in, temperatures will cool considerably, dropping down to the mid 80s. The front looks to linger into the weekend, which leads to storm chances starting Thursday, continuing through Saturday. Models have been inconsistent on timing and location, so keep the rain jacket or umbrella handy as the week comes to an end. Rain chances look to taper Saturday evening.
