Tracking scattered storms as summer heat persists into the start of the week

TODAY: I'm tracking ongoing showers and storms throughout the morning hours near I-44, but most will begin dry and warm as temperatures start in the low 70s. By the afternoon hours, temperatures are expected to get into the low 90s, with humidity making it feel like it is around 100. Scattered storms are expected to develop along and south of I-70 during the afternoon hours as a boundary stalls out overhead. Depending on where the heaviest downpours set up, locally cooler forecasts with less intense heat compared to the majority can be expected. Winds will be shifting into the north throughout the day at 5-10 mph.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking scattered storms decreasing in coverage during the evening hours, leading to mostly quiet conditions overnight. Temperatures will gradually drop into the low 70s by the end of the night as winds gradually shift back into the southeast at 5-10 mph.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking a few possible storms on Monday, but most will stay dry and hot as temperatures warm into the low to mid 90s by the afternoon hours. Heat index values are expected to reach up to 105 during the peak heat of the day. Tuesday is still expected to be hot, but luckily, a cold front is expected to move through the area, which will take the humidity with it, so heat index values will not be quite as intense as on Monday. After this, widespread relief can be expected, as temperatures on Wednesday through Friday will only get into the low to mid 80s, and humidity will stay on the lower end. Thursday night into Friday, slightly more widespread showers and storms can be expected. Drier weather will return for the weekend, but warmer weather is also expected to come with it.
