Tracking brutal heat Monday and Tuesday, storms late week

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and muggy with lows in the lower 70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the low to mid-90s. Heat index values between 100-105.

EXTENDED: Scattered showers and storms will continue to diminish as we lose daytime heating, with mostly clear skies and light winds overnight. It will be a muggy start to the morning with lows in the lower 70s and some patchy fog. Southwest winds will help push temperatures into the low 90s on Monday with dew points in the 70s, giving us a heat index above 100 degrees. A front moving in from the north will bring a cool down between Tuesday and Wednesday, finally giving us a break from the intense heat as highs only make the 80s through Friday. As the upper pattern shifts to more northwesterly wind flow, we'll see a few disturbances over the area that could provide lift for storms to develop between Thursday night and Saturday. Winds out of the northwest in the upper levels may also begin to send Canadian wildfire smoke in our direction, so we may notice hazy skies by mid-week. As high pressure builds back over the region by the weekend, temperatures could return to the 90s.
