Tracking more chances of strong to severe storms today and tomorrow

TODAY: An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day has been issued for the potential of strong to severe storms today. For the most detailed information, head on over to our weather alert day blog. I'm tracking mostly dry time throughout the rest of the afternoon as high temperatures reach into the mid-80s and dewpoints persist in the 60s, adding a muggy feel to the air. It will be breezy throughout the majority of the day, and there is a low potential of storms this afternoon, but the likelihood of these occurring is rather low. If storms can develop in the west this afternoon, they would be capable of severe hazards as the atmosphere will be primed for strong storms. However, the most likely scenario is that storms develop further south and west during the heat of the day.

TONIGHT: I'm tracking the storm development to the south and west moving into the area, carrying a slight risk for hail and damaging winds into the region later tonight. These storms are estimated to move into western portions of Central Missouri between 7 and 9 p.m. Activity will weaken with time, lowering the severe threat as storms move east.

EXTENDED: I'm tracking potential showers present on Wednesday morning, which would complicate our threat for severe storms later in the evening as instability tries to recover and temperatures remain slightly cooler in the 70s. Due to the potential for storms during the afternoon and evening, an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect. We'll be drier on Thursday, with highs in the 70s again. Another warm-up into the 80s comes on Friday ahead of another storm chance, where some storms could be strong, so another ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day will be in effect throughout the evening and overnight hours. Drier and cooler weather is expected this weekend with temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
