Tracking more sunshine and warmer temperatures Sunday
TONIGHT: Gradual clearing with patchy fog developing by daybreak in low lying areas. Lows in the mid-upper 30s.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and pleasant with highs in the mid-upper 60s.
EXTENDED: It was a chilly day following last night's storms; we ended up with more than an inch of rain in Columbia and with clouds clearing tonight we could see some patchy fog in low lying areas if winds can die down enough. Tomorrow will be much more pleasant as winds turn back out of the southwest, bringing temperatures back into the upper 60s as sunshine returns. Southwest flow picks up early next week as a cut off low pressure system slides by to our south, sending moisture north from the Gulf. This will bring temperatures up to near record highs - (80 and 82 for Monday and Tuesday, respectively), and set the stage for the potential for more severe weather on Tuesday. A warm front lifts to the north on Monday night, bringing a low chance for a few showers overnight. With the warm front to the north on Tuesday, the atmosphere will become increasingly unstable. Storms are expected to develop by late afternoon and will be cellular, bringing the threat of hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. The threat continues into late Tuesday night with a delayed frontal passage into Wednesday. Showers linger through about midday Wednesday before rain ends and temperatures top out in the upper 50s. We'll gradually warm for the rest of the week with highs near 60 again on Thursday and upper 60s to close out the week with sunshine on Friday.Â
