Tracking the return of rain chances tonight

TONIGHT: Cloudy and cool, with temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s. A band of showers will develop over the area around midnight or after, with a few rumbles of thunder possible.

TOMORROW: Scattered showers and storms throughout the day, with the highest rain chances along and north of I-70. Dry time is possible across the Lake of the Ozarks and I-44 in the afternoon, where temperatures will climb into the upper 50s and low 60s. Cooler and wetter conditions are expected further north with temperatures in the 40s.

EXTENDED: A wet workweek is expected with almost daily chances for showers and storms. Rain will become slightly more widespread again on Tuesday night with increased low-level winds, and rain will linger into Wednesday morning. However, we may see a short window of dry time early Wednesday, which could allow us to recover ahead of another round of storms midday, with a very low risk of strong storms producing high winds and small hail on Wednesday afternoon. Rain will slowly clear out early Thursday, with a brief glance of sunshine for some, and temperatures climbing to near 70 degrees. We'll warm even further into the upper 70s, possibly even 80 degrees, on Friday as a warm front lifts north and we watch for a cold front sometime Friday night. Timing with this front does not support many strong storms Friday night, but that's another potential we'll be watching. Rain totals after the week will reach 2 to 3 inches, with the best totals across southern Missouri.
