Tracking a wintry mix tonight, some slick spots for Monday commute
TONIGHT: An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect until 9 a.m. Monday for a brief wintry mix that could cause slick spots during the Monday morning commute. Rain will arrive early this evening, with a thin band of sleet possibly mixing in along the I-70 corridor at times. As temperatures drop overnight, snow will become the main precipitation type north of I-70, while areas south of the interstate continue to see rain. This wintry mix will pass quickly, ending before sunrise for most, but drizzle may linger in southern Missouri early tomorrow morning. Snow totals could reach 1 to 2 inches north of I-70, though warm roads and surfaces will limit impacts to patchy slick spots at worst. Elsewhere, wet roads are expected, with half an inch to an inch of rain likely.
TOMORROW: Patchy slick spots for the morning commute north of I-70, with wet roads across the area. Conditions will briefly dry out in the afternoon, with overcast skies and temperatures rising into the upper 40s.
EXTENDED: A wet and warm week will greet us as we head into March, with rain chances returning on Tuesday, and the daily possibility of showers and thunderstorms continuing through the end of the week. Temperatures will climb 15 to 20 degrees above average into the 60s and 70s to start meteorological spring, which could lead to some stronger storms late in the forecast. Confidence remains low due to the busy week of rain ahead, so stay tuned as we monitor this setup.
