Tracking mild weather through Saturday, light wintry impacts early next week
TONIGHT: Mostly clear, with temperatures falling into the 50s after sunset, and lows in the 40s. Winds will gradually ease overnight, dropping to around 5 to 10 mph from the north.
TOMORROW: Partly cloudy and warm, with highs in the mid-60s. A brief period of light rain is possible midday, with up to a tenth of an inch of rain near and south of I-70. Winds will pick back up from the southwest, gusting up to 20 mph.
EXTENDED: A cold front will move into the area late Saturday, bringing colder temperatures and wintry precipitation on Sunday and Monday. An ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day has been issued from noon Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday for all types of precipitation in Mid-MO, including snow and light ice. Rain will arrive late Sunday afternoon with temperatures above freezing, but precipitation will switch to bouts of freezing rain into Sunday evening as temperatures fall to the low 30s. Snow will then begin to mix in Sunday night, especially along and north of I-70, where 1 to 2 inches of snowfall may accumulate by Monday morning. A mix of sleet, freezing rain, and snow could cause slushy conditions for the rest of the area south of I-70, with total accumulations generally below 2 inches. Overall impacts will be light, but traffic may be moderately affected at times during the Monday morning commute. Conditions will clear fairly quickly on Monday with temperatures rising back above freezing into the 40s in the afternoon. Next week is expected to stay mild and wet, with rain chances returning by Tuesday and the potential for storms later in the week.
