Tracking a warm end to the week, wintry weekend ahead

THIS AFTERNOON: Sunny and mild, with highs in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees and calm winds.

TONIGHT: Temperatures drop into the 40s this evening, with lows in the mid-30s under clear skies.

EXTENDED: Friday will be very warm and windy, with highs near 70 degrees and wind gusts up to 25 mph coming from the southwest. Burning is strongly discouraged due to low humidity and dry fuels in the area. Temperatures will climb back into the 60s on Saturday, but a cold front will end our warm streak as it moves into the area by Sunday, bringing cooler temperatures into the 30s. We expect precipitation on Sunday as a system passes through, with a mix of rain, ice, or snow all possible in Mid-MO. It's too early to predict specific types or totals for any location, but the chance of wintry weather is increasing. Impacts could last into early Monday, but a steady warmup is expected next week with more rain chances on Tuesday and Wednesday.
