Tracking a few showers tonight, big warm up by Friday
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a few showers possible before daybreak. Lows in the lower 30s.
TOMORROW: Clearing early, mostly sunny with highs in the upper 50s.
EXTENDED: A weak clipper system will bring the chance of a few showers or flurries tonight, clearing up early Thursday morning. Friday will be the warmest day of the week as high pressure begins to build over the region, with gusts up to 25 mph. With continued dry conditions, we could see an elevated fire risk yet again as highs reach the upper 60s to low 70s. A cold front moves through the area on Saturday, potentially creating a temperature gradient with cooler highs to the north and 60s to the south. That gradient will depend on the speed of the front, but it's a mostly dry frontal passage. A more significant low pressure system is expected to develop late Sunday and continue into Monday morning. An Arctic high pressure system settling into the Upper Midwest will pull cold, dry air into the region. The interaction between the Arctic air and arriving moisture is expected to create a 12- to 18-hour period of wintry precipitation. The system will be messy with the potential for light freezing rain, snow, sleet, and plain cold rain, with the best chance of seeing winter road impacts north of I-70. Currently, there's about a 30-40% chance of up to 1" of snow north of the I-70 corridor, and a 20-25% chance of a trace of freezing rain accumulation across all of Mid-Missouri.
