Weather Alert Day: Dangerous cold returns Friday into Saturday
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerously cold temperatures settling in between Friday and Saturday.

A wave of low pressure will usher in another arctic air mass at the end of the week, with a strong high pressure system setting up shop right over the Midwest.

The polar vortex continues to weaken to our north, allowing that cold air to spill into the continental U.S.

Northwest winds at the surface will make the air feel even cooler as wind chills are expected to drop several degrees below zero to kick off the weekend.

Friday will be bitter with highs only reaching the mid-teens, but by Friday night, lows fall a few degrees below zero with wind chills between -10 and -15 degrees. We'll remain in the teens through Saturday before winds shift back south Sunday and push us back into the upper 20s to around 30.

Frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes if exposed to these conditions. Wear warm, dry, layers and try to limit time outdoors for kids and pets.
