Tracking brutal cold and snow showers starting late tonight

TONIGHT: Bitterly cold with lows a few degrees below zero. Wind chills between 10 and 20 degrees below zero. Snow showers begin late, arriving around dawn for areas along Highway 65.

TOMORROW: Snow likely, especially in the evening. Highs in the upper single digits with wind chills near zero.

EXTENDED: Snow looks to arrive in two waves, with light snow showers moving in from the west southwest early on Saturday morning. The first wave begins to lighten or end around midday, with the next, more robust wave arriving by sunset. Snow showers will be heaviest after midnight through about noon on Sunday. Light snow comes to an end between noon and 6:00 p.m. Sunday from west to east. Total snow will range from 3-6" along and north of Highway 24, 6-9" along and north of the Missouri River, and exceed 8" for points south. Wind chills will be coldest on Sunday night, with readings around -15 to -20 by Monday morning. Roads are expected to be slick into Monday with frigid temperatures, especially in untreated spots. Temperatures only reach the low teens on Monday morning, warming to the 20s for the rest of the week. Overnight lows will hover around or just below 10 through next weekend.
