Tracking a cold Thursday with an arctic blast by the weekend
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and breezy with lows in the teens. Wind chills around 8-10 degrees by daybreak.
TOMORROW: Increasing clouds and chilly with highs in the mid-upper 30s. A few flurries are possible late in the day.
EXTENDED: Skies remain clear overnight with lows falling into the teens. With a light breeze shifting to the southwest tonight, we'll see wind chills around 10 degrees in the morning. Clouds increase throughout the day as a pre-frontal trough comes through with a little bit of moisture, but the best chance of seeing snow will lie to our east across Illinois. We could see a few flurries, and temperatures remain in the 30s. Friday will be a touch warmer near 40, but another cold front moves in, bringing a chance for a few flurries and a huge cool down for the weekend as an upper system centers to our north across the Great Lakes. This will send a much colder air mass in our direction, giving us temperatures in the low teens on Saturday morning with highs in the lower 20s. Morning wind chills will be in the single digits with some afternoon clouds and flurries. Sunday will be the coldest day, and we have issued a Weather Alert Day for wind chills that are expected to drop below zero on Sunday morning. Morning lows will be in the single digits with feels like temperatures around -5. Next week looks to remain chilly with temperatures around or just below our seasonal average to start the week.Â
