Tracking morning fog, one more mild day before rain and cold return Sunday
TONIGHT: Mostly clear with fog developing late. Lows in the mid-upper 40s.
TOMORROW: Dense fog in the morning with partly cloudy skies and gusty winds. Highs near 70.
EXTENDED: Lows drop into the mid-upper 40s, with dense fog development possible by morning as winds remain light and dew points stay in the 40s. Tomorrow will be warmer after fog clears and winds shift southeast as high pressure moves east of us. Temperatures could warm as high as 70 degrees with humidity also increasing with that wind shift. The air mass will be warm and humid on Sunday morning as morning temperatures remain in the 60s ahead of a stronger cold front that will allow a very cold air mass to settle in by late Sunday. We will likely see showers developing before midnight on Saturday, continuing into Sunday morning. We'll have a small window through mid-late afternoon where we could see a few thunderstorms, but the severe risk will be low for much of Mid-Missouri given the morning rain and limited window where we have enough instability along with strong wind shear. A level 1 out of 5 severe risk is in place east of Highway 63, but the better chance looks to be near the St. Louis area where there will be a longer window to keep temperatures warm ahead of the front. Once the front passes on late Sunday afternoon, temperatures fall through the day with late afternoon readings in the upper 40s. Sunday night looks cold with lows in the teens and wind chills in the single digits in some spots. Next week overall will be much cooler with highs in the 20s on Monday and upper 30s to around 40 between Tuesday and Wednesday. New Year's Eve is looking dry but chilly with overnight lows in the lower 20s.Â
