Tracking patchy fog into Christmas Eve morning

TONIGHT: Patchy fog and drizzle will remain possible overnight. Temperatures will be very mild, staying in the 50s along and south of I-70.

CHRISTMAS EVE: Expect patchy fog in the morning, with mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. Highs will reach the upper 60s and low 70s south of I-70, and the mid to lower 60s further north.

EXTENDED: A stalled boundary over the area will keep clouds and uncertainty in the forecast through Christmas Day. We are still expected to be 25+ degrees above average, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s on Wednesday and Thursday, but chances of record-breaking warmth have decreased significantly. Friday may now be our best chance to near records with a lower ceiling to reach; Columbia's record high on the 26th is 69 degrees, set in 1942, and our forecast high is 68. However, there is considerable uncertainty regarding temperatures as a front wavers over the area through the end of the week. A strong, dry cold front will finally push the warm air out this weekend, with highs dropping to the 30s on Sunday and Monday.
