Tracking gusty winds and cooler temperatures Wednesday

TONIGHT: Chance of a few showers, mostly cloudy with lows in the mid-30s.

TOMORROW: Partly cloudy and breezy with temperatures topping out around 40, then dropping through late afternoon. Wind gusts could reach 35-40 mph early in the day.

EXTENDED: The mild weather doesn't hang around long as a cold front sweeps through tonight and brings a quick hit of a few showers. Temperatures drop to around 35, then level out at around 40 degrees on Wednesday as strong northwest winds gust to 35-40 mph at times.  A wind advisory is in effect for counties north of Highway 24 overnight through noon Wednesday. A few flurries will be possible, but no impacts are expected. Another clipper system dives in from the northwest on Thursday night, bringing a chance at snow across northeast Missouri into central Illinois. Any light accumulation would be limited to Macon to about Monroe City and points northeast. We'll end the week on a chillier note with highs in the upper 30s on Friday. A cold arctic high pressure system moves in for the weekend, with the coldest temperatures settling in on Saturday night into Sunday. We may need to issue a Weather Alert Day for morning lows below ten degrees on Sunday. Sunday looks to be the coldest day with highs in the lower 20s before warming back to near 40 degrees again next Monday.
