Tracking a frigid night, another round of snow tomorrow
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with lows around 20 degrees. Wind chills in the low teens by morning.
TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy and cold with highs in the mid-upper 20s. Snow showers moving in north of I-70 before lunch time, becoming more widespread in the afternoon. Snow accumulation ranging between 1-3" with a heavier snow band setting up north of I-70 in the afternoon.
EXTENDED: Snow starts moving in from the west for northern parts of Mid-Missouri by mid-morning, but will have to overcome a layer of dry air at the onset. We likely won't see many impacts until after lunch time, when the air saturates a bit more. Snow showers fill in area wide, and we could see two areas that could experience short lived high snowfall rates, setting up a zone of 2-4"+ in those spots in a short amount of time. The most likely zones for that potential are near the Highway 24 corridor and between Highway 54 and I-44. I am concerned about high snowfall rates around evening commute time for the Highway 24 band and later in the evening, say closer to 8-9PM for those near Highway 54. Most of the area falls within a range of 1-3", with the higher amounts in that range concentrated north of Highway 24. Anything left untreated will be slick due to below freezing temperatures. Snow looks to exit to the east before midnight. The rest of the week is looking colder than average, especially Thursday as arctic high pressure settles in, with morning temperatures in the low to mid-teens. We could see another quick moving system that brings a shot at light rain on Friday as temperatures approach 40 in some spots.
