Tracking snow tonight for parts of Mid-Missouri, changing to rain on Saturday
TONIGHT: Cloudy with snow showers moving into northern Missouri before midnight, spreading east through the overnight hours. Snow changes to rain quickly west of Highway 63, with ongoing snow showers by daybreak for areas north of Highway 24. Lows in the low 30s.
TOMORROW: Snow changes to rain area-wide before lunch time. Wet and cold with highs in the upper 30s. Snow accumulation less than 1" for areas along Highway 63, 2-3" possible farther northeast before rain moves in.
EXTENDED: The onset of precipitation tonight could be as early as 10PM across northern Missouri, perhaps extending to Macon by this time, falling as snow. The rain/snow line overnight will stretch from about Moberly to Columbia to Linn before sunrise, then slowly slide northeast though the morning. I think snow will likely end in Columbia around 7AM or so, then shift over to cold rain. Snow continues to the northeast, giving a few inches of wet snow to areas up toward Mexico and Montgomery City. Rain continues through the day, but as the sun sets, temperatures drop and we could see a few more flurries on the back side of low pressure. Total snow amounts will be around a half inch to an inch in Columbia, with 1-3" farther northeast. I'm not worried about re-freeze as ground temps have been above freezing and winds will pick up. Sunday is looking very cold with wind gusts up to 25 mph and wind chills in the low 20s. We'll start Monday off bitterly cold with lows in the teens and highs only making the mid-20s. Another system moves in with drier air in place on Monday, and a chance at light snow. Little to no accumulation is expected. The rest of the week is looking quite cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the upper teens to around 20.Â
