Tracking gusty winds and a big cool down Wednesday

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy and chilly with lows in the lower 30s. Gusty winds up to 20 mph.

TOMORROW: Breezy and cold with highs in the low 40s. Wind chills in the 30s through the day with gusts up to 30 mph.

EXTENDED: Wind chills in the morning will be in the 20s, remaining in the 30s throughout  Wednesday as highs only make the low 40s. Thursday looks chilly to start, with morning temperatures at sunrise in the mid-20s. Wind chills will be less of an issue on Thanksgiving as winds die down, and it will look pleasant at least with plenty of sunshine. Friday starts off dry, but it's still chilly with temperatures reaching the upper 30s. Active weather returns to Mid-Missouri between late Friday and early Sunday. The system responsible is still off across the Pacific, so we'll get a better handle on the track as it comes ashore in the coming days. At the same time, we'll have that cold air in place, but warm air surging in from the south will be a key player, especially by Saturday. Precipitation could move in by late Friday night, especially across northern Missouri into northern Illinois on the cooler side of low pressure. As temperatures warm and low pressure moves to the east, precipitation takes over completely, especially by mid-morning Saturday. So, if we see any accumulation in our area it likely will not last long before washing away with Saturday's rain. Rain continues through late Saturday night or early Sunday, but re-freeze issues on roads are not expected as temperatures will be near the freezing mark with above freezing ground temperatures. The track of this system will also be imperative, as if it moves farther south we'll have a better shot at snow. If it continues to trend more northerly, we could end up with mainly rain as a precipitation type. The best chance of seeing 1"+ of snow will be along and north of Highway 36 at this point. Sunday through early next week is looking much cooler than average with highs in the lower to mid-30s and lows in the upper teens to low 20s.
