Tracking strong storms late tomorrow night and Wednesday, late week heat

TONIGHT: Mostly clear to partly cloudy with lows near 70.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the upper 80s and heat index values in the low to mid-90s.

EXTENDED: It's been a warm and humid start to the week, and tomorrow will be very similar as temperatures reach the upper 80s and heat index in the 94-95 degree range during the afternoon. Tomorrow night, a Weather Alert Day goes into effect for the potential of overnight storms that could potentially become strong to severe across portions of eastern Kansas and spread east as a large storm complex overnight into Wednesday morning. The main concern would be damaging wind gusts. Depending on how quickly storms exit on Wednesday morning, we could see another round develop ahead of an advancing cold front on Wednesday afternoon through the evening, particularly along and south of I-70. That round could bring all hazards, including wind, hail, and a few tornadoes. Storms clear out Wednesday evening, with a big pattern shift on the way for the rest of the week into the region. A large upper level ridge will build overhead, allowing highs to reach the low 90s and heat index values reaching between 97-100 through the weekend, with very little relief in the way of rain.
