Past Memorial Day climatology and upcoming forecast

Memorial Day is just around the corner and this year is looking moderately different from the past several years as cooler temperatures and rain is forecasted.

Of the past five years, four out of the five Memorial Days have seen above average afternoon highs with only one day measuring five degrees below average.

The last five years have seen very minimal rainfall totals for Columbia Missouri making for preferred temperatures for those spending time outdoors.

This years Memorial Day is forecast to be 16 degrees below average for the afternoon high with chances of showers expected thanks to an incoming low pressure system expected to drop around 0.3" of rain.

The last time highs were forecast to be in lower 60s dates back to 1993 for much of Mid-Missouri.

Pollen levels look to peel back slightly due to the filtering of air particles from the chances of rain. There is expected to be a slight chop for people looking to spend time out on the water.

Of course, many try to enjoy the whole weekend, so here's a look at what you can expect from Friday through Sunday.

Rain will increase in coverage and likelihood Friday night and again Saturday night, leaving dry time in between. Rain becomes more widespread Sunday.

Total weekend rain expectations keep values over an inch south of I-70, with some possibly seeing more than 2 inches.
