Tracking strong storms with hail, wind, and heavy rain tonight
TONIGHT: Storms move in after sunset and will bring the threat of quarter size hail, strong winds, and heavy rain up to 1". Lows in the mid-60s.
TOMORROW: Morning storms exiting with highs near 80. A few isolated severe storms becoming more widespread in the evening. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes possible from late afternoon through late tomorrow night.
EXTENDED: Severe storms to our southwest will congeal to form a large storm complex that will bring widespread rain and embedded strong winds and hail tonight into the overnight hours. Instability begins to wane after sunset, so the extent of severe weather will likely be west of Highway 63, but rain and storms could linger through early Monday morning. As a warm front lifts north during the day on Monday, severe storms could develop along that boundary across Mid-Missouri, producing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. A few strong tornadoes are possible if the front can get far enough north during the day. A long line of severe storms is then forecast to move in from the west in the evening, bringing the threat of damaging straight line winds, large hail, and a few weaker tornadoes. Storms could linger into Tuesday morning ahead of the cold front in eastern Missouri, but the severe threat will decrease before midday. Rain amounts will be highest on Monday, with 2-3" possible, leading to local flash flooding. We'll be dry for much of the week remaining with highs in the 60s through Friday. Scattered showers and storms return for next weekend.
