Tracking rounds of severe storms and heavy rain starting Sunday night
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with storms south of I-70 overnight. Lows in the mid-50s.
TOMORROW: Partly sunny with storms moving in after sunset. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Some storms could be strong to severe with heavy rain, large hail, and strong winds.
EXTENDED: An active pattern sets up over the next several days with rounds of rain and storms moving through Mid-Missouri between tonight and Tuesday. A decaying storm complex could bring widespread rain to the southern third of Missouri late tonight, but severe weather isn't expected in our area. We'll be warmer on Sunday as a warm front approaches and winds shift out of the south. Storms are expected to develop across southwest Missouri early in the day, continuing to grow upscale and move into Mid-Missouri by mid-late evening. This round will bring the potential for large hail and strong winds, but is expect to weaken overnight. Lingering showers exit early Monday morning, paving the way for another day with severe storms in the forecast as the warm front lifts north. All hazards will be possible by late afternoon into Monday night, with up to golf ball size hail, 60-70 mph winds, and tornadoes possible. A final round of storms is possible early on Tuesday as the trailing cold front presses east. This front cools us back into the 60s for the remainder of the week. Rain amounts through Tuesday night will be in the 2-3" range with locally higher amounts, putting stress on smaller rivers and streams.
