Tracking mild and wet weather to kick off the weekend

TODAY: Friday will be warmer, with a high in the upper 30s and more clouds. A warm front will lift through the region, and try to bring a few flakes or light rain showers, but it will largely fail, as the very light precipitation will be undercut by dry air at the surface. We will slowly saturate the lower atmosphere through the evening, though, which will bring better chances for wet weather by midnight.

TONIGHT: Wet weather after midnight may begin as drizzle or even light showers, but it will leave very little moisture in the rain gauge by Saturday morning. Temperatures remain warm, just above freezing overnight.

EXTENDED: Saturday morning brings through a second wave of precipitation, in the form of a band of better rain showers, but also likely a mix over to snow. Showers in the morning will fall through 40 degree air, but a cool down by the evening will switch us to snow. Snow accumulations will be possible, but if we see them, they are expected to be light. This very much depends on the upper level support of this second band of precipitation on Saturday. It has trended weak up until now, with the exception being one dataset. So, it is likely that we don't pick up much in the way of snow, but a minor accumulation scenario is not out of the question, especially for our northeastern counties like Audrain and Monroe. We will continue to monitor to bring you the latest, but the best chance for snow will come on Tuesday of next week, after a big cooldown Sunday through most of next week.
