Tracking accumulating snow, poor travel conditions Wednesday into Thursday morning
TONIGHT: Cloudy and cold with lows in the upper 20s. Snow showers moving in before sunrise.
TOMORROW: Snow showers likely with sleet possible near the Lake of the Ozarks. Accumulation between 1-7", with the highest amounts north of I-70. Highs near 30 degrees.
EXTENDED: It's quiet through the evening commute tonight until early tomorrow morning as our next winter storm approaches from the west. Not too many changes have been made to the forecast, with the onset of precipitation still around 3:00-4:00 a.m. for areas west of Highway 65, 5:00-7:00 a.m. for those west of Highway 63, and between 7-8:00 a.m. for those east of Highway 54. End times will follow accordingly, with an end time along the HWY 65 corridor between 4-6:00 p.m., Highway 63 6-8:00 p.m., and Highway 54 7-9:00 p.m. There will be a zone where precipitation changes between sleet and snow, and that looks to fall near the Lake of the Ozarks and points directly east as temperatures will just be slightly warmer. This will cut into snow totals in this area. Snow total amounts have not changed much in the last 24-48 hours with 5-7"+ along and north of Highway 24, 3-6" along I-70, and 2-5" for those along Highway 50 including Jefferson City. South of Highway 50 those amounts will be around 1-3", and that would include any sleet. As snow exits, very cold air moves in, keeping untreated roads slick into Thursday as lows dip into the upper single digits. Thursday is cold and blustery with more sunshine as highs reach the low 20s. Friday morning could be cold enough to issue a WAD, but we'll keep an eye on it as lows drop below 10 degrees. Friday afternoon is warmer as we get back into the upper 30s. We're watching another system that will bring rain on Saturday, but could end with accumulating snowfall Saturday evening as much colder air sweeps in. If precipitation lingers Saturday night as the cold air moves in, we could see another 1-2" across parts of the area, favoring the north yet again. We'll fine tune those details as the upcoming system exits.Â
