Tracking light snow late Monday night, winter storm by mid-week

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and cold with lows in the lower 20s.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy with a few snow showers late. Highs in the upper 30s.

EXTENDED: We'll start the week off gloomy with cloudy skies and chilly temperatures Monday, but largely dry outside of a couple of cold sprinkles north of I-70. A slightly stronger disturbance rolls through southern Missouri on Monday night into Tuesday, bringing a chance at light snow through early Tuesday. Amounts look to stay under 1" for much of the area, with slightly higher amounts to our south. Impacts are expected to remain limited. Cold air stays in place, however, ahead of a stronger low pressure system that will track to our south into the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. We'll be on the colder northern side of that system, with the potential of several inches of snowfall, especially for the northern half of Mid-Missouri. Snowfall amounts could range from 2-6"+ with the higher end of that range along and north of I-70. Snow looks to begin from west to east and continue from early Wednesday morning and wrapping up before midnight. Cold air sticks around through the end of the week, but temperatures will warm above freezing by Friday. Another storm system moves in for the start of the weekend with a mix of rain and snow possible through early Sunday morning.
