Tracking a warm afternoon before a mid-week cooldown with rain
TODAY: Monday is a warm day, with temperatures nearing records. Highs are forecast in the upper 60s to near 70s across the region. Winds will be southwesterly at a rate of 5-10 mph most of the day before switching from the northwest along a cold front in the late afternoon.
TONIGHT: Winds will pick up to 10-15 mph behind the front, dropping temperatures to near 40 by midnight.
EXTENDED: Temperatures near freezing by early Tuesday morning, setting us up for a cooler day on Tuesday. Winds shift from the east through the day, keeping highs in the 40s. Tuesday night, a warm front lifts in from the south, increasing clouds and bringing drizzle and light rain. This will initially move in over warm air for most of mid-Missouri, limiting a freezing rain threat, but for some near HWY 36 in the north, a short lived window may support a chance at freezing rain for a few hours before warming Wednesday morning. Few impacts are expected, but this will be something to monitor as we get closer. Overall, Wednesday will warm into the 50s, leaving just rain and a chance for thunder in the forecast. We'll be drier to end the work week, but chances for rain return by the weekend. In total, we could pick up a quarter of an inch to a half inch of rain over the next week.
