It's no secret that its been dangerously cold across the Midwest the past several days, but the southeastern most states are now seeing impactful winter storm impacts that aren't seen often. Snow and ice has blanketed much of the area from Houston and east dropping accumulating snowfall causing travel issues for millions.

The latest radar scans at 3:09 PM Tuesday show a large line of snow shows expanding from New Orleans all the way northeast just south of Washington.

Past radar estimated snowfall totals have shown close to 9" in New Orleans and up to 5.9" in Houston, Texas. This region is not well outfitted for impactful snow and ice since these sort of storms are more of a rare occurrence. This means roadway conditions deteriorate at quicker rates causing a increase in accidents across the south.

The latest ABC 17 Stormtrack Futuretrack shows heavy snow falling from Alabama through the Carolinas lasting through the early morning hours Wednesday.

Additional accumulating snow is expected across portions of Northern Florida and Southern Georgia with the possibility of some areas seeing up to 6" before conditions calm down Wednesday afternoon.
