Weather Alert Day: Dangerously cold mornings through Thursday

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerously cold morning temperatures through Thursday morning.

Arctic air following Sunday and Monday's winter storm coupled with snow covered ground will make for some frigid mornings in Mid-Missouri through late week.

Strong winds from the northwest will keep temperatures well below average, with low temperatures hovering near zero. The cold temperatures will likely keep roads slick in some spots for a couple days, especially in untreated areas.

Even minor wind gusts will send the wind chill below zero, with Wednesday being the coldest morning as wind chills could drop to about -10 degrees in some spots.

Make sure to keep your pets inside and keep their walks short. If you encounter treated sidewalks or roads, be sure to check their paws for road salt and clean them appropriately.

To keep pipes working properly, leave your heat on and set to at least 55 degrees. Open cabinet doors to allow pipes to warm, and consider letting faucets drip overnight to avoid pipes freezing.
