Tracking a chilly afternoon ahead of a weekend warmup
THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures will be cold north of I-70 today remaining near or below freezing while those to the south reach the 40s. Clouds will mostly linger in the north today with light snow flurries possible in northern Missouri.
TONIGHT: Lows plummet well below freezing areawide with many spots in the teens. The wind chill will be in the single digits in the worst areas Friday morning.
EXTENDED: Friday remains dry with more sunshine but temperatures are still cool. By the weekend we'll all climb back to the 40s but rain chances pick up late Friday throughout the day Saturday. The best rain holds off until after midnight into Saturday and will continue on and off through the day. Sunday clears out again before a repeat chance of overnight rain into early Monday. These systems will bring 1 to 2 inches of rainfall but cold temperatures follow next week.
