Tracking rain for holiday travel today

THIS MORNING: Mostly cloudy and chilly in the mid-30s. Rain tracks into northern Missouri by midmorning.

TODAY: Highs climb into the mid-40s. Rain spreads into central and southern Missouri in the early afternoon and does not exit until midnight to the south. Rain totals only reach a few tenths of an inch.

EXTENDED: Thanksgiving will be chilly and breezy behind the rain as highs reach the upper 30s with sunshine. A deep cooldown continues into the weekend with highs dropping to near or below freezing. On Saturday a clipper system is expected to track in from the northwest and drop about 0.5" to 1" of snow through mid-late afternoon. After the snow clears out, we'll see our coldest temperatures yet as lows fall into the teens on Sunday morning. Sunday does not get above freezing, and the night will be even colder with lows in the low teens. Cold and dry air sticks around into next week with highs in the 30s on Monday and Tuesday.
