Tracking strong storms overnight, cool and breezy Halloween
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and breezy with storms moving in late. Storms could bring damaging winds and heavy rain. Lows in the lower 50s.
TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy and breezy with highs in the upper 50s to near 60.
EXTENDED: Storms will be most volatile across eastern Kansas where the tornado threat is higher into early evening, but our main focus will be the threat for widespread damaging straight line winds. The line of storms will move in from the west to our counties along Highway 65 between 10 p.m. And 12 a.m. and progress east through the night. Storms move into Columbia and Jefferson City between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m., and will begin to lose strength the farther east they get. Other concerns will be up to 1" hail and a few weak tornadoes along the line. Rain amounts could total between 1-1.5" by Thursday morning. Rain and storms will be exiting around daybreak, with gusty winds and clouds sticking around through much of the morning. We'll be breezy and much cooler for Halloween with temperatures only reaching the upper 50s and wind gusts up to 25 mph. It will be cool enough for long sleeves for trick or treating, with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. Friday will be dry to end the week with more sunshine and highs in the 60s, but rain and a few storms return for the weekend with not much dry time in between rounds. Next week starts off wet with rain and storms on Monday, and a few of those could be on the stronger side by Monday evening. Rain totals through next week could add up to 3"+.Â
