Tracking storms tonight before a dry and cool Halloween

TODAY: Wednesday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as storms capable of Damaging Winds, Tornadoes, and Hail are possible tonight. For an in depth read on tonight's storms, visit our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. Wednesday is just as breezy and warm as Tuesday, with some added humidity to hopefully limit the fire concern we had Tuesday. Winds will still be gusty, up to 40 mph in some cases, but sustained closer to 20 mph. Temperatures reach near 80. Some showers and storms may develop in the low level jet as modest instability builds through late morning into the afternoon, but these are not expected to be severe. Additionally coverage is low as these will be centered over northwestern parts of the region. Chances for midday showers are best from Sedalia to Macon, and lesser near Columbia and Jefferson City.

TONIGHT: Storms return tonight along a cold front. This is our chance for severe storms as they roll west to east through the region from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. All types of severe weather are possible, but wind damage will be our most common impact.

EXTENDED: Thursday starts dry as this rain is gone by sunrise, but clouds remain through much of the morning. We'll be sunnier in the afternoon, with dry and crisp conditions for trick-or-treat hours. Temperatures will only climb into the upper 50s if they don't fall all day long behind the early cold front. This leaves us in the low 50s by late evening, and 40s after sunset. Friday is sunny and warmer, with temperatures in the 60s. Southerly flow starts to pick up aloft and will cast showers over a warm front to our south on Saturday morning. The warm front reaches us overnight Saturday into Sunday, warming us and bringing rain chances with it. We'll have rain chances each day over the weekend, through Monday, as this system is slow to pass, and will send a chance for showers and storms each day until the cold front passes some time Monday into Tuesday. Temperatures are expected in the 60s Friday through Sunday, with a peak in the low 70s Monday ahead of the front.
