Tracking Atlantic tropical storm activity

Hurricane Helen has claimed around 160 lives as of 5 pm this afternoon as the death toll is expected to rise. With many people working to pick up the pieces advancing towards recovery, it might be hard to look back into the tropics at possible future storms could be brewing.

At 4:30 Tropical Storm Kirk was upgraded to Hurricane Kirk as winds remained sustained at 75 mph. Thankfully, this hurricane looks to stay deep into eastern portions of the Atlantic Ocean.

Just east of Kirk there is a 90 % chance of cyclone development within the next 48 hours signaling another potential storm growing in strength. This system is currently expected to remain well of to the eats for the time being not impacting the United States.

Looking a tad bit closer to home in the Gulf of Mexico, there is a 40% chance of tropical cyclone development due to an area of low pressure possibly strengthening. Development is possible into the later portion of this week into the upcoming weekend if anything forms.

After Kirk, the next tropical storm name up for grabs in the Atlantic ocean is Leslie.
