Tracking summer heat through Friday before rain chances pick up

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and mild with lows in the lower 60s. River valley fog possible.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. A few spotty storms possible after sunset.

EXTENDED: Low level winds will begin to pick up ahead of a cold front to our west tomorrow night, increasing moisture and instability across the region. Thus, a few storms could develop across western Missouri tomorrow evening through Friday morning. A few could be strong just west of Mid-Missouri. Any rain leftover will likely push east of us by early Friday morning, leaving us with yet another hot day near 90. I'm tracking better rain chances over the weekend as a closed off low pressure system will drag a slow moving cold front through. We will have dry time in between rain and storms, but the highest chance on Saturday looks to be in the afternoon, with the better chance for measurable rain on Sunday in the afternoon north of I-70. Rain amounts will be anywhere from 0.5" to 1", with the higher end of that range across the northern half of the state. Behind this slow moving system, we'll be cooler next week with upper winds shifting more west/northwesterly.
