Hurricane Francine makes landfall

Hurricane Francine has made landfall in South Louisiana this afternoon as a category two hurricane. Winds have raced into the triple digits as the storm has gained strength and speed throughout the last several hours.

Strong damaging winds, life-threatening storm surges, and flooding remain the primary threats for this system as it moves to the north at 17 mph.

Winds must reach into the upper 90s to be classified as a category two hurricane just after 4pm.

Storm surges are expected to reach up to 12 feet this evening as the eye of the hurricane races over the southern coast. Hurricane warnings line Louisiana.

The impacts of Francine look to reach Missouri later Friday and could lead to scattered shower chances across Mid-Missouri as the center of low sits back towards the boot heel.

Further east into the Atlantic Ocean there are more potential tropical storm developments as we inch close to the peak of hurricane season.
