Tracking triple digit heat indices Monday, rounds of rain and storms by midweek

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and brutally hot with highs in the upper 90s. Heat index values between 105-110 degrees.

EXTENDED: Tomorrow will be the hottest day with highs in the upper 90s and a heat index between 105-110. Tuesday is starting to look a bit more uncertain temperature wise due to a slow moving front that will bring rounds of rain and storms and much cooler air for the rest of the week. There's a good chance we may cancel the Weather Alert Day for Tuesday with clouds and rain moving in earlier in the day, but we'll make that call tomorrow as the timeline gets more clear. Either way, we are still expecting around 90 despite the rain chance, and that would put a heat index in the upper 90s to around 100. If the front moves in more slowly, we may still hit those 105 degree marks, especially south of I-70. Scattered storms are expected between Tuesday and Wednesday, and the rounds of rain could lead to more flooding with high water content in the atmosphere. 1-2" of rain is likely between Tuesday afternoon and late Wednesday. A few storms could also be strong, with a level 1/5 severe risk carved out for much of Mid-Missouri. Rain finally departs on Thursday with the front moving south, and that will bring a dramatic cool down for the rest of the week. It will actually be quite pleasant with lower humidity and cooler than average temperatures in the lower 80s. Our nights will be beautiful with lows near 60 and clear skies through the weekend.
